To say that Christian theology is a process of “faith seeking understanding†may mean a number of approaches to considering faith, in the first instance and Christian theology, in the second instance. Space does not permit either an extensive or exhaustive travail of the territory from Abraham to Augustine and onwards. (Hays, for example, suggests that Abraham is the prototype of the community of faith, which interprets all human experience through trust in God’s word.) However, here, I seek to answer this question within three defining characteristics: faith asks questions, faith is never in isolation, and faith is dynamic.
